The hiring reflex

The problem is departmental. The hire is individual.

Most B2B companies reach the same point. Referrals slow. Founder-led selling stops scaling. Existing relationships stop compounding. New business needs to become predictable rather than opportunistic.

The reflex is to post a job ad: Business Development Manager, SDR, Account Executive, Marketing Manager. Sometimes all four, in sequence, over eighteen months. Then the reality of the role sets in.

You did not need another employee. You needed a function.

The result: eighteen months, two salaries, an agency retainer, and a pipeline that still depends on the founder's phone.

  • Recruiting a good one takes three to six months, and the good ones are expensive.
  • One person cannot research accounts, write sequences, build the CRM, design the deck, run the calls, nurture the leads and report on all of it. So they do some of it, badly, and the rest goes undone.
  • Leadership still has to onboard, train, direct and supervise. The management burden lands on the founder.
  • Marketing and sales operate on separate briefs. Marketing produces content; sales does not use it. Sales wants leads; marketing measures impressions.
  • Agencies deliver activity (sends, clicks, “leads”) and stop short of the commercial conversation.
  • A BDM spends more of the week on prospecting, collateral and CRM admin than actually speaking with prospects.
  • And when that one person leaves, most of the growth engine leaves with them.

Inside your company, in practice

Picture it running.

In week one we agree who you sell to, why they buy, and what a qualified opportunity looks like, in writing. Then the department gets to work.

  1. We build a verified list of the accounts that fit your ideal customer profile and the decision-makers inside them.
  2. We write the outreach (calling scripts, email sequences, LinkedIn touches) in your voice, around your commercial argument.
  3. We put the collateral in place a first conversation needs: a capability statement, a one-pager, a landing page that answers the prospect's obvious questions.
  4. We open the conversations. Phone first, supported by email and LinkedIn. Real dialogue with real decision-makers, not volume for its own sake.
  5. We qualify against the criteria we agreed, book the meeting, brief your closer, and confirm the prospect shows.
  6. We follow up the ones that said “not now,” and keep the record straight in your CRM.
  7. Every week you see the numbers: accounts worked, conversations had, meetings set, opportunities created, and what we are changing next.

Your team turns up to qualified meetings. We run everything upstream of that.

Evidence

Results, in the client's words.

Three clients on what changed once the function was in place.

We'd already gone through the process of hiring internally and it just wasn't delivering what we needed. Fullstride gave us access to a much broader capability without having to build the entire function ourselves. They came in, understood the business quickly and started putting structure around our outreach, pipeline and follow-up. It feels much more like having a growth team inside the business than using an outside agency.

FounderB2B Services Company

The biggest difference for us has been ownership. We weren't looking for another consultant giving us a list of things we should be doing. We needed someone to actually do the work. Fullstride took responsibility for the outreach, the CRM, the messaging and generating conversations. I can see what's happening every week without having to manage another employee.

CEOProfessional Services Firm

What impressed me was how commercial the approach was. It wasn't marketing for the sake of marketing or sending thousands of generic emails. They worked out who we should be targeting, tightened the way we positioned the company and built a much more deliberate business development process around it. We're now having conversations with companies we previously weren't getting in front of.

Fit

Fullstride works best when the fundamentals are in place.

A strong fit for B2B companies that:

  • have a proven product or service that existing customers value;
  • have deal economics that justify a proactive sales effort: meaningful contract values, repeat business or long-term relationships;
  • need new business to become predictable rather than referral-dependent;
  • want to build or accelerate pipeline immediately;
  • are considering hiring a BDM, SDR or marketing manager;
  • have thin commercial infrastructure: no CRM discipline, no outbound rhythm, no sales collateral worth sending;
  • are entering a new market, region or vertical, or launching a new service line;
  • want growth without adding permanent headcount right now.

Probably not the right fit if you:

  • are pre-revenue, or still testing whether the market wants what you sell;
  • expect closed deals in the first thirty days. Outbound builds pipeline; it does not shortcut a sales cycle;
  • sell a low-ticket product where the economics of a human conversation don't work;
  • want a vendor to run in the background with no involvement from your side. This works when your closer shows up.

We say so on the first call if we think the fit isn't there.

The operating method

Five stages. One accountable team.

  1. Stage 01

    Diagnose

    A structured discovery: who you sell to, why they buy, what a qualified opportunity is, what your sales process looks like today, and where the leaks are. Output: an agreed commercial brief.

  2. Stage 02

    Build

    Target account list, decision-maker data, messaging, scripts, sequences, collateral, CRM configuration, sending infrastructure and reporting, built and reviewed before anything goes out.

  3. Stage 03

    Launch

    Outreach begins across phone, email and LinkedIn. Early weeks are calibration: we test the message against the market and adjust. Creatives and collateral are finalized and utilized.

  4. Stage 04

    Execute

    The department runs at rhythm. Conversations, qualification, meetings, follow-up, CRM hygiene, and campaign support to keep prospects warm.

  5. Stage 05

    Refine

    Weekly reviews and monthly resets. What's converting, what isn't, which segments respond, what to double down on. The engagement gets sharper each month.

Reporting

Activity is not the metric. Pipeline is.

Every week you receive a report that connects effort to commercial progress.

Anyone can send you a dashboard of dials and opens. We report so that you can see whether the department is doing its job: moving the right accounts toward a commercial conversation.

  • Accounts researched and added
  • Outreach volume by channel
  • Conversations held with decision-makers
  • Qualified leads against your agreed criteria
  • Meetings booked and meetings held
  • Opportunities created and pipeline value
  • Campaign performance
  • What we are changing next, and why

The questions we get asked first

Straight answers.

The seven things a founder or CEO usually asks before the first call, answered the way we would answer them on the call.

  • Why wouldn't we just hire someone?

    You might, and for some companies that's right. But ask what you actually need: a person, or a function? A single BDM without marketing, data, systems and creative support spends most of their week compensating for what's missing. Fullstride is the function.

  • Is this just outsourced cold calling?

    No. Calling is one channel inside a coordinated programme that includes research, email, LinkedIn, collateral, CRM and campaign support. Anyone can dial. The work is in who gets called, with what message, and what happens next.

  • Will you understand our business?

    We work with all types of firms precisely because we invest the time upfront. Discovery is structured, messaging is developed with you, and nothing goes to market until you've approved it. We take the time to learn your business and implement the fundamentals to achieve the goal outcome. It is like baking a cake — we follow the recipe that delivers the result.

  • Do you replace our internal sales team?

    Only if you don't have one. More often we operate as the top of the funnel for an existing closer, founder or account team, or as additional capacity into a new market.

  • What happens once a meeting is booked?

    We brief your closer, confirm the prospect, and stay on the follow-up. Your team runs the meeting. We keep the pipeline moving around it.

  • Can you work alongside our existing marketing team or agency?

    Yes. We'll plug into what's working and coordinate the rest. The point is one strategy, not more vendors.

  • How quickly can this be implemented?

    Onboarding typically runs 1 to 2 weeks before outreach begins. We don't publish a fixed timeline because it depends on how quickly your side can supply access, approvals and input, and we'd rather be accurate than fast.

Next step

Before you post the job ad, have this conversation.

Thirty minutes with a senior operator. We'll talk through your market, your sales motion and what a growth function would look like inside your company. If Fullstride isn't the right model, we'll tell you what is.
